A Series 8 Version VI special edition launched December 2001 to celebrate Mazda's motorsport heritage at the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, Australia. The Type R Bathurst is the volume Bathurst variant, sold alongside the more limited Bathurst R. 280 PS 13B-REW, 5-speed manual, 2+2 seats, seat style B, 16″ wheels, model code F158-2CW.
Total: 2,174 units. All Series 8 Version VI. Sold across five standard Series 8 colours (Sunburst Yellow was reserved for the Bathurst R).
